Guy: "We've been digging out some of the older songs" • 04 Apr 2009
Hello Guy. How are you?
I'm good, thanks. I'm in a car on my way to Dubai airport. We had a very interesting gig tonight.

How long ago did you finish it?
About two hours ago.

This was the gig at the palace in Abu Dhabi.
Yes, but the venue was actually outside, what with this being one of the hottest, driest countries in the world. But about three songs in, the heavens just opened and everyone was getting soaked. It was pouring with rain and there was crazy thunder and lightning.

Presumably they're not that well prepared for that kind of thing.
No, they're not. But it was good, though, because everyone just gritted their teeth and went for it. And Chris changed a lot of the words of the songs to reference rain. It ended up being a really, really good show, actually. When you have an obstacle like that, it just pulls everyone together. During Fix You it stopped raining and I think everyone was so happy that the whole mood lifted even further. It was a really good way to end this leg of the tour.

Has it been a good set of gigs?
Absolutely. But we have had to do a lot of travelling over the last couple of weeks, from Australia, to New Zealand, then to Singapore, Hong Kong and Abu Dhabi.

It's been a long trip.
Yeah, it's been five weeks, which is about our cut off point, really. But we've all had the kids out staying with us, so it's been a bit more manageable. Read the full interview

Coldplay to record in zero gravity • 02 Apr 2009
It's been announced today that Coldplay are to boldly go where no musicians have gone before, by recording in zero gravity. Later this year, the band will board a modified Boeing 727 aircraft, which can provide zero gravity for periods of 20-25 seconds at a time. Wearing self-designed outfits based on early Russian cosmonaut suits, they will be joined by producer/collaborator Brian Eno, who will use custom-made "heavy" microphones to record the sessions on a 1969 analogue cassette player.

"We've been searching for the right environment to record the perfect snare drum sound for many years now," Chris Martin told Coldplay.com, "and I've just got a gut feeling that zero gravity is the place to do that, y'know?"
Sounds pretty cool, eh? silly

Edit: Of course that was just an April Fool's joke.

Coldplay to take a break? • 27 Mar 2009
Rockers Coldplay are contemplating a career break once they finish their current world tour - so their fans don't grow sick of their music.

The band, led by frontman Chris Martin, want to revamp their sound before heading back into the studio to record the follow-up to their 2008 album Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends.

And guitarist Johnny Buckland hopes the hiatus will keep their fanbase from tiring of them.

Buckland says, "We ended up doing much more touring than we originally planned so there's no time to do proper justice to a new project. And anyway people may need a bit of a break from us.

"We're taking a little break and let's see where we get after that. We've got a lot of ideas but we want to find a new way to go and that may take some time."
